On Wednesday 17th January 2018, we opened the school to parents of students in J.1 and J.2 to see how a Fun English lesson looks. We were joined by 69 parents, as well as 20 special guests of student-teachers and professors from Tokyo Gakugei University. The lesson was taught to 26 J.2 students and conducted by Mr. Ryan and assisted by Miss Tsui. The lesson was structured around the book ‘Rocky Barks All Day’, and the activities aimed to build students’ confidence in spoken English through a drama performance. Firstly, the students welcomed the parents and guests to our school and then the lesson began with a phonics song focusing on the letter ‘S’. Then, Mr. Ryan read the story to the students and then assigned parts to them for Readers’ Theatre. The students rehearsed in groups of four. After rehearsing, 4 students were selected to perform in front of the whole class and audience. Parents completed questionnaires and spoke with the presenting teachers after the class. The feedback was very good and a lot of parents felt reassured that their children were learning well and enjoying their English education. |
